Rustic Acorns

Details

These are oversized acorns I sculpted in a pulp of newspaper and white glue. Painted with gesso, acrylic and glazed to achieve a crackle finish on the surface and a metallic finish on the caps. I made the stems out of thick leather cord.

These measure approx. 3in (including stem)x 1.5in
(78mm x 40mm)

Wonderfull! Which product are you using to make the crackle finish on the caps?

Hi Nico- thanks. I've been asked that a lot. A quick way to create the crackled effect is to begin painting directly onto the pulp/mache before it is completely dry. As the surface shrinks during drying, it causes the paint to crackle. That's one of the techniques I use, depending on the size of the piece. I know there are a number of products on the market that may be worth experimenting with until you find the look you want.
