DIY neotribal mask

Details

This is a mask project I designed several years ago for a t.v. show. I was asked to be a guest on the show "Craft Lab" on the DIY network. I was allowed to design a project, write a script/pitch for the episode, then demonstrate the project on the show. I ALWAYS have ideas, except, for some reason, when I'm under the gun! At the 11th hour, I decided on this project and had to make many of the same piece at different stages (called step-outs). As the pieces were still not fully dry when the day came to fly to L.A. for the taping, I had to pack loads of masks still curing on their heavy clay molds and pray that the airline wouldn't think the clay was for bombs or something. I made it okay, but had to stay up till all hours the night before going to the studio to get the pieces done. The next day I was at the studio for about 11 hours (on little or no sleep) working on my episode with one of the producers. Thankfully, they were taping quite a few episodes and had many other guests there, too. I was the last guest to tape that day, and because I'd had so much time to practice and perfect my demo, we did the episode all the way through with only one retake (because I accidently looked at the camera). It was a little harrowing, but I'm so thankful I had the opportunity, and glad I didn't chicken out like I originally wanted to!
