heat resistant varnish

i have made a tray using a wooden base covered with pm and decoupage, and have sealed it with PVA (lots of layers).  Unfortunately when I put hot coffee mugs on the tray the PVA goes milky.

Does anyone know if there is a heat resistant varnish which I could use next time (or perhaps even put on top)?

This is a great site and I appreciate all the ideas.  8)

Re: heat resistant varnish

Hi...

There is a product that I've purchased at my local craft store.  I can't think of the name.  It comes in a mix and it is crystal clear.  You pour it on your tray and let it dry.  It dries crystal clear and hard as a rock and protects your project.  I haven't used mine on trays, but instead I use it for my flower arrangements in vases (fake looking water).  I was recently reading a paper crafting book and they used this same product to cover a t.v. tray that they PM'd/decopauged so I am assuming it is safe for that type of use as well.

Hope that helps!

Vicki

Re: heat resistant varnish

I'll run over to my craft store today and get the name.  Actually, I might have some here that I havent used yet.  I'll take a look around in my crafting closet and get back to you.

Re: heat resistant varnish

It sounds as though you are talking about resin.  Do you have to mix it with a catalyst?

YES!  I thought that was the name, but didn't want to say it without double checking.  I often get things confused with other things and end up saying the wrong thing.   lol
