The Incredible Art of Helen Jewett

Helen Jewett is a young artist from Canada.

For her materials, she says: "Each sculpture is handmade and painted with no more tools than fingers and a paint brush. By virtue of this primal process, each creation is unique and produced in a fluid and intuitive manner. The process begins with a handmade metal armature over which light weight clay is sculpted. The painting is done with acrylic or oil pigments and the embedded eyes are glass or acrylic. When complete the whole piece is glazed to intensify colour and strength."

Looking at various sites describing her art, she is a bit coy with actually saying what that "light weight clay" is, but I am suspecting that it is either a polymer clay (oven bake) or, since she does say that it has been 'evolving' over time, perhaps a papier mache type of material.

Her website:  http://www.ellenjewettsculpture.com/sculptures/

... or just type in 'Helen Jewett Sculpture'.

What a feast for the eyes and mind! And... doesn't it give you some wonderful ideas?
