Scylla Earls

Mask in progress

Details

This is the base for a complex mask, designed as a wall-hanging rather than a wearable mask. It is slightly larger than life-size.

The current form was created in 2 parts: the face was sculpted in modeling clay, and then covered with cartonnage. The beak was created from flat cartonnage, and joined to the face once dry.

Wow, that will keep the burglars away. I look forward to seeing it painted.

Looks outstanding so far; are you going to put real feathers on it? It looks like a Japanese Karasu Tengu to me.

Thanks, friends!

Hi David, yes, she is intended to be fearsome. Mark, yes, she will have cartonnage feathers (now I have to look up "Karasu Tengu").

Looks best at this stage, Scylla. Sometimes paint will mask the effectiveness of the character. I always struggle with the question whether paint or not, so take my comment as a reflection of that. :) best of luck with the finishing stages.
