My first vessel experiment

I made this vessel using a balloon to make the shape. I had put on two layers from the phone book and the balloon popped. I had to put one more layer to make it stronger. I cut out the design of the ridges by hand. I made the mistake of not putting more paper on the outside first and wrapped paper around the ridges and when it dried the ridges dried in different positions. I did not take into account the shrinkage of the paper. But, I was still pleased with it. I freehand drew the design around the vessel. The base of the vessel was mixed with gold metalic paint and dark green acrylic paint. The design on the vessel I used the same gold and acrylic paint with the pink acrylic. I freehand drew the designs.

nice, for the first time,
but it is better to put a layer of paper mache paste,
befor you take the balloon out.

Hi Janneke, I did. But the balloon popped on its own and I did not get a chance to put another layer on. I had to do with what I had. It is one of those things that do go wrong and you do better the next time. I tried to strengthen the ridges by wrapping around them. I should have started wrapping on the outside of the vessel, let that dry and wrap on the inside. I would have gotten a more uniform shape. But, as things go, it turned out all right and became a good learning experience. I am using that knowledge now for my second piece.
