Mache without a Mold

Hello, I am new here ^ ^ But I already have a question.
I am making thin cat like ears for a costume, but I don't have anything that could be used as a proper mold to make these ears. I guess I can make a link or something to the picture. I was just wondering if its posible to use a roung like object to give it the basic shape, but the points and such wouldn't be molded to anything.

Re: Mache without a Mold

Hi Koala,
Yes, you can do this without a mold. Make a pattern for the shape you want. Just looking at the picture you sent, I think this would be easy to do with a cut open loo roll. Make two ears from the loo roll (reverse them, so that the curve is mirrored). Coat them lightly with either papiermache pulp or strips of papiermache. Let them harden. Repeat if needed. Start with a thin coating so that you can maintain the curve. When finished, either sand, coat with gesso and then paint, or glue on fabric. You might want to join the fursuit list or look at their faq: http://www.fursuit.org/

Cheers,
Jonette

Hi Koala.

Please check out this image.  these are headpieces which can be made into skull caps or helmets.  http://www.rozani.com/hdpc.html They are easy to work with,  You can even insirt wire through them and add straps, etc.

If you are interested, they are being auctioned off.
